CAFE | Centre for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment

Poverty is a main factor that hinders the development of the rural area. This is especially the case in the Niger delta of Nigeria, as the region has to deal also with heavily polluted farmlands, forests, lakes and rivers.a

High-yield farming and fishery would contribute to the increase of the food supply as well as the improvement of the nutritional status of children and adults in the Niger Delta.

Located in Delta State, the Centre for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (CAFE) is a vocational training centre that transfers (tropical) agricultural and fishery skills and techniques to students, farms and farming families.

CAFE organise workshops and vocational training programmes for local students and practitioners. The centre offers a variety of courses: incl. rice farming, fish farming, chicken farming and coconut farming.

We have started to incorporate the Agromisa programmes into the newly established CAFE project. Focusing in farm and forestry management, soil and water management, storage and packaging techniques, and keeping goats, bees, porks and cows.

The CAFE project works also with local colleges and universities to improve their curriculums through institutional knowledge and skills transfer.
